Twinwood has two resident dressage trainers, both with extensive experience in the United States and overseas. All dressage lessons are given by Ida Mattisson and Nikki Taylor-Smith. Boarders may bring in an approved jump trainer for cross-country and stadium lessons. Twinwood does not have lesson horses, but occasionally there may be boarded horses available for partial or full lease; see our Horses for Sale or Lease page.
Ida Mattisson is a native Swede who comes to Twinwood after a successful four years with Enterprise Farms (Rhinebeck, NY and Wellington, FL). Ida has trained, taught and and shown in Europe and the US, including Wellington, Florida. Ida has her US bronze, silver and gold medals and her German bronze and silver. Ms. Mattisson has trained FEI competition horses to Grand Prix, using the classical principles she learned under international trainers such as Dirk Meyelmans and Peter Markne. Ms. Mattisson specializes in bringing horses and riders up the levels, building a solid partnership without stress or gimmicks. Silver medalist Nikki Taylor-Smith is a native Briton and former BHS Instructor, British Dressage Judge and Chief Pony Club Instructor/Examiner. Nikki offers dressage lessons for all levels, up to Grand Prix. Nikki welcomes all dedicated riders, as well as competitive amateurs and professionals. Nikki provides instruction based on the European 'Scales of Training,' having been taught by the likes of Stephen Clarke (FEI Olympic Judge), Carl Hester and Syliva Schorn (Bereiter & Pferdewirtschaftsmeister).
